My research includes defining and re-defining the denials involved in the human treatment of non-humans. Layer upon layer of denial exists in our culture, ranging from the arrogant disavowal of the human animal and elevation of humans above and away from all other species in the world, resulting in the lumping of all others into one category: animal, all the way to the advertising campaigns of kind-hearted "animal" rescue groups and individuals who sometimes put their lives and livelihoods at risk to save the lives of pet animals while simultaneously forgetting that some kinds of animals even exist or that they themselves are also "animals." In addition, I am delving into technological advances that bring about, cover up, and expose atrocities, as well as the anthropocentric commonplace assumptions that we, as a culture, assume to be truths.
